Alfred was born in 1872 in Turton.1  Alfred's father was William Ramsden and his mother was Elizabeth (Betty) Hamer.  His paternal grandparents were <Unknown> and Matty Ramsden. He had five brothers and five sisters, named John, James, William, Fred, Ernest, Martha, Sarah, Emma, Alice and Alice.  He was the nineth oldest of the eleven children.  He died at the age of 67 on December 6th, 1939 in Turton.2
