Robert's father was Hopley Vernon Price and his mother was Ada Cecillia Woodfire. His paternal grandparents were Robert Price and Mary Brereton. He had a brother and four sisters, named George, Constance, Eva, Elsie and Vera. He was the youngest of the six children.
