Josiaha was born in 1831 in Breightmet.1   Josiaha's father was Josiah (Joseph) Phethean and his mother was Ellen Mather.  His maternal grandparents were John Mather and Ann Brabin. He had six brothers and a sister, named William, Joseph, Peter, John, James, Joseph and Ann.  He was the oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 73 in 1904 in Breightmet.2
