Ellen was born on April 14th, 1841 in Salford and her baptism took place on September 18th, 1842 at Manchester Cathedral.1 2  Ellen's father was James Partington and her mother was Frances (Fanny) Eddowes.  Her maternal grandparents were Thomas Eddowes and Charlotte Morris. She had six sisters named Emma, Mary, Charlotte, Emma, Margaret and Elizabeth.  She was the oldest of the seven children.
