Ellen's father was James Partington and her mother was Frances (Fanny) Eddowes.  Her maternal grandparents were Thomas Eddowes and Charlotte Morris. She had six sisters named Emma, Mary, Charlotte, Emma, Margaret and Elizabeth.  She was the oldest of the seven children.
