Mary was born on July 16th, 1848 in Salford and her baptism took place on June 4th, 1854 at Manchester Cathedral.1 2  Mary's father was James Partington and her mother was Frances (Fanny) Eddowes.  Her maternal grandparents were Thomas Eddowes and Charlotte Morris. She had six sisters named Ellen, Emma, Charlotte, Emma, Margaret and Elizabeth.  She was the third oldest of the seven children.
