Mary's father was Job Openshaw Snr and her mother was Nancy Beswick. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Openshaw and Catherine (Cassandra) Haslam; her maternal grandparents were James Beswick and Alice Booth. She had four brothers and four sisters, named James, Job, Jonathan, William, Jane, Alice, Sarah and Elizabeth. She was the fifth oldest of the nine children. She died at the age of 83 on April 10th, 1937.
