Thomas' father was James Openshaw and his mother was Mary Holt. He had two brothers named James and Richard. He was the youngest of the three known children. He died at the age of 66 in January 1853 in Ainsworth. He was buried on January 5th, 1853 in Ainsworth.2

26 Sep 1813, Thomas Openshaw was a Paper Maker when he married Catherine Haslam (and when all the children were baptised).
1813 to 1818, Jonathan, Alice and Mary were baptised at St Matthew, Little Lever. The abode was given as Farnworth, Darcy Lever and Manchester (although possibly all the same home).
1823 to 1826, sons Thomas, William and John were baptised at St Peter's, Bolton. The abode was Tonge, Thomas a Paper Maker.
