Richard was born on August 1st, 1784 in Ainsworth and his baptism took place on September 9th, 1784 at Cockey Moor Discenting Chapel.1  Richard's father was James Openshaw and his mother was Mary Holt. He had two brothers named James and Thomas.  He was the second oldest of the three known children.
