Sarah was born in June 1759 in Pennington and her baptism took place on June 28th, 1759 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Leigh).1  Sarah's father was Henry Mather and her mother was Mary Hampson. She had a brother and three sisters, named Joseph, Sally, Ann and Mary.  She was the oldest of the five children. She had three half-brothers and a half-sister, named John, James, Henry and Peggy.
