Samuel was born in July 1837 in Newton.1  Samuel's father was James Mather and his mother was Sarah (Sally) Whitehead. He had six brothers and four sisters, named Henry, Edwin, James, Abraham, John, Joseph, Ann, Elizabeth, Catherine and Mary.  He died at 5 months old in December 1837 in Newton.  He was buried on December 13th, 1837 in Newton.2
