Henry was born in 1820 in Failsworth and his baptism took place on May 14th, 1820 in Newton Heath.1  Henry's father was James Mather and his mother was Sarah (Sally) Whitehead. He had six brothers and four sisters, named Edwin, James, Abraham, Samuel, John, Joseph, Ann, Elizabeth, Catherine and Mary.  He died at the age of 19 on April 28th, 1839 in Dukinfield.  He was buried on April 28th, 1839 in Newton Heath.2
