Abraham was born in 1835 in Newton and his baptism took place on July 15th, 1835 in Newton Heath.1  Abraham's father was James Mather and his mother was Sarah (Sally) Whitehead. He had six brothers and four sisters, named Henry, Edwin, James, Samuel, John, Joseph, Ann, Elizabeth, Catherine and Mary.
