Ann was born in February 1822 in Failsworth and her baptism took place on February 17th, 1822 in Newton Heath.1  Ann's father was James Mather and her mother was Sarah (Sally) Whitehead. She had seven brothers and three sisters, named Henry, Edwin, James, Abraham, Samuel, John, Joseph, Elizabeth, Catherine and Mary.
