Rose's father was Edward Mather and her mother was Sarah Ellen Taberner.  Her paternal grandparents were John Mather and Jane Edwards. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Harold, Albert, John, Lilly, Violet and Mary.  She was the second youngest of the seven children. She had a half-sister named Maggie.  She died at the age of 68 in January 1964 in Farnworth.²
