John Mather

John was born on August 5th, 1835 in Turton and his baptism took place on May 29th, 1836 at Walmsley Presbyterian conducted by William Probert.¹²

John's father was Robert Mather and his mother was Ann Ainsworth. His paternal grandparents were <unknown> and Ellen Mather. He had four brothers and three sisters, named William, Thomas, James, Robert, Peggy, Mary and Sarah. He was the fourth oldest of the eight children. He died at the age of 67 in August 1902 in Farnworth. His burial was on August 29th, 1902 at Christ Church, Walmsley.³

  In 1860, James was born in Darwen, followed by Edward in Little Hulton in 1862. The family then settled in Little Bolton.
  
  In 1861, John and Jane (both 25) are still at Cox Green, three houses away from his parents. They had a son James (4 months) who was born in Darwen.
  
  In 1871, John and Jane (both 35) and Edward (8), Hugh E (6) and Mary J (1) were living at 4 Prospect St, Little Bolton.
  
  In 1881, there my have been other births in Hulme and then Atherton (if the same marriage).
  
  August 1902 John died at Farnworth, aged 67, as is buried at Christ Church, Walmsley.
