Sarah's father was Robert Mather and her mother was Ann Ainsworth. Her paternal grandparents were <unknown> and Ellen Mather. She had five brothers and two sisters, named William, John, Thomas, James, Robert, Peggy and Mary. She was the youngest of the eight children. She died at the age of 65 in August 1913 at Egerton. Her burial was on August 30th, 1913 at Christ Church, Walmsley.²
