Sarah was born in September 1847 in Withnell.1  Sarah's father was Robert Mather and her mother was Ann Ainsworth.  Her paternal grandparents were <unknown> and Ellen Mather. She had five brothers and two sisters, named William, John, Thomas, James, Robert, Peggy and Mary.  She was the youngest of the eight children.  She died at the age of 65 in August 1913 at Egerton.  She was buried on August 30th, 1913 at Christ Church, Walmsley.2

‌Sarah and Edward were married in a religious ceremony on September 8th, 1875 at St. Peter's (Bolton).3  They had four sons and a daughter, named Robinson, John, Fred, Herbert and Annie.  There are no more children.
