Albert was born in 1891 in Newton.1  Albert's father was Edward Mather and his mother was Sarah Ellen Taberner.  His paternal grandparents were John Mather and Jane Edwards. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Harold, John, Lilly, Violet, Rose and Mary.  He was the third oldest of the seven children. He had a half-sister named Maggie.  He died at the age of 4 in 1895 in Nelson.1
