Mary's father was Edward Mather and her mother was Sarah Ellen Taberner.  Her paternal grandparents were John Mather and Jane Edwards. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Harold, Albert, John, Lilly, Violet and Rose.  She was the youngest of the seven children. She had a half-sister named Maggie.  She died at the age of 2 in April 1901 in Bolton.
