Miles was born in 1752 in Radcliffe and his baptism took place there on March 27th, 1752.1  Miles' father was James Mather and his mother was Mary Pendlebury. He had three brothers and six sisters, named John, Thomas, James, Ann, Betty, Martha, Alice, Jenny and Sally.  He was the second oldest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 68 on December 1st, 1820 in Radcliffe.  He was buried in December 1820 at St. Mary (Radcliffe).2 3
