James Mather

James was born in 1846 in Ashworth.¹

James' father was Robert Mather and his mother was Sarah Ford. His paternal grandparents were Ralph Mather and Helen (Ellen) Dorning. He had three brothers and two sisters, named John, Thomas, William, Ann and Ellen. He was the youngest of the six known children. He died at the age of 58 in April 1904 in Whitefield. His burial was in Stand.²

  In 1896, James was an Inn Keeper (probably at Heywood) when Sarah Jane married Joseph Horrocks.
  
  In 1901, James (55) was a licensed victualler at the Junction Hotel, Whitefield
