Ann was born in 1831. Ann's father was Robert Mather and her mother was Sarah Ford. Her paternal grandparents were Ralph Mather and Helen (Ellen) Dorning. She had four brothers and a sister, named John, Thomas, William, James and Ellen. She was the oldest of the six known children.
