Hephzibah was born on December 8th, 1912 in Sunderland.1  Hephzibah's father was Wallace Mather and her mother was Martha Isabella Hammond.  Her paternal grandparents were John Charles Mather and Hephzibah Leigh; her maternal grandparents were William Hammond and Elizabeth Ann Scott. She had four brothers and a sister, named Lily, William, John, Ronald and Lydia.  She was the oldest of the six children.  She died at the age of 82 in 1994.
