Wallace was born in September 1893 in Farnworth.1  Wallace's father was John Charles Mather and his mother was Hephzibah Leigh.  His paternal grandparents were Miles Mather and <unknown>. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Wilfred, John, Ethel, Effie, Lily and Florence.  He was the second oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 50 in January 1944 in Sunderland.2

‌Wallace and Martha were married.  They had four sons and two daughters, named Lily, William, John, Ronald, Hephzibah and Lydia.  There are no more children.
