Florence's father was John Charles Mather and her mother was Hephzibah Leigh. Her paternal grandparents were Miles Mather and <unknown>. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Wallace, Wilfred, John, Ethel, Effie and Lily. She was the third youngest of the seven children.
