John Charles Mather was the son of Miles Mather, both Colliers, born Leeds, and birth registered at Derby, MMN = BRIGHT.
John married Haphzibah Leigh in 1889, but Ethel and Wallace's births were recorded with MMN = LEE (and only LEIGH after they moved to Durham).
In 1891, John and Haphzibah (20 & 19) were living at 6 Booth Lane, Little Lever.
In 1905, son John George Mather was born in the USA
In 1911, John Charles Mather and Haphzibah (38 & 37) were at 16 Burnville Road, Sunderland with Wallace (18), Lily (10), Florence (9), Wlifred (8) and John George (6).
10 Oct 1914, Born St Mary's, Leeds joined the Army (3yrs short service). L.N. Lancashire No.17063. He was recruited at Farnworth and discharged 9 June 1916, no longer fit for service. Address was 149 Bridgewater Street, Farnworth, Bolton.
