Henry, son of William Mather married Margaret Holden in 1838. Census records show Henry born about 1801 and the only Lancashire MATHER+HOLDEN marriage.
NOTE: This is the only other Mather marriage at Deane (as well as John Mather and Ellen Buckley) between 1837-1840, although several in 1841 and later.
1 Jan 1838, Henry married Margaret Holden at Deane. Margaret is described as a spinster, so Richard was an illegitimate son. Her father was William Holden.
In 1841, Henry and Margaret Mather (41 & 35) are at Wingates, Westhoughton with son (or stepson) Richard Mather (13)
1851, Henry and Margaret (56 & 48) were at Wingates with Richard Holden (23, U, Son) and John Green (78, lodger, probably an uncle as Mother was Mary Green). There was no James.
