Ellen was born in 1858 in Bolton.¹

Ellen's father was John Mather and her mother was Elizabeth Coop. Her paternal grandparents were William Mather and Elizabeth (Betty) Farrand. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, James, George, Alice and Mary. She was the fourth oldest of the six children. She died about 1859 in Bolton.¹
