Elizabeth was born in 1837 in Atherton.1  Elizabeth's father was Richard Mather and her mother was Elizabeth Buckley.  Her paternal grandparents were Robert Mather and Jane (Jenny) Sale. She had five brothers and a sister, named Martha, Edward, James, John, Richard and Ann.  She was the youngest of the seven children.
