Ann was born in 1830 in Chorley.1  Ann's father was Robert Mather and her mother was Mary Cunliffe. She had six brothers and three sisters, named James, Richard, John, Thomas, William, Robert, Esther, Mary and Sarah.  She was the second oldest of the ten children.
