Edith's father was Andrew Low and her mother was Rachel Mather. Her maternal grandparents were James Mather and Susanna (Susan) Whalley. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Andrew, James, Giles, Fred, Susan and Jane. She was the oldest of the seven children. She died at the age of 79 on April 15th, 1960 in Manchester.²
