Fanny's father was Joseph Lister and her mother was Isabel Mary Bewley. Her paternal grandparents were David Lister and Ann Elizabeth Smith. She had two brothers and two sisters, named David, William, Sarah and Gertrude. She was the third oldest of the five children.
