Rachel was born in March 1852 in Edgworth.1  Rachel's father was Edmund Holden and her mother was Sarah Mather.  Her maternal grandparents were James Mather and Rachel Hamer. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, Elijah, Richard, George, Ann, Alice and Sarah.  She was the fourth youngest of the eight children.  She died at the age of 63 on March 6th, 1915 in Darwen.  She was buried in 1915 in Darwen.2
