Arthur was born in March 1859 in Barnsley.¹

Birth Notes

Arthur's father was John Crosland and his mother was Ann (Nanny) Townend. His paternal grandparents were Joseph Crosland and Ann Darwent. He had eight brothers and four sisters, named Charles, Robert, John, Fred, Job, Albert, Sam, Everett, Harriet, Hannah, Emma and Eliza. He was the youngest of the thirteen known children.
