Margaret was born in March 1768 in Bolton and her baptism took place on March 13th, 1768 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1 2  Margaret's father was John Crook and her mother was Ann Parkinson.  Her paternal grandparents were Mordicai Crook and Alice Crompton. She had five brothers and four sisters, named John, Mordicai, Mordicai, John, James, Ann, Elizabeth, Alice and Ann.  She was the fourth oldest of the ten children.
