William's father was Cornelius Buckley and his mother was Margaret Miller. His paternal grandparents were John Buckley and Mary Crook. He had a brother named James. He was the younger of the two children. He had three half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Joseph, Josiah, Ephriam, Mary, Martha and Sarah. He died at the age of 70 in March 1904 in Horwich.³

General Notes
- There are several William Buckleys' in the family, so although born "WIlliam", sometimes William went by the name William Miller Buckley (including when he married).
  
  At Darcey Lever (son, 22) in with parents in 1851.
  
  Aged 7 in 1841 with Parents Cornelius and Eliza (35 & 35), living with his grandparents as Crook Street, Bolton.
  
  In 1851, William (Aged 17) was with Parents Cornelius and Esther (46 & 42),
  
  By 1861, had left home (did not marry Nancy Gregory, that was his cousin).
  
  In 1866, William married Mary Compston at Barton-upon-Irewell Methodist Chapel.
  
  In 1870, William was registered as William Miller Bucklet on the electoral register at Swinton (Pendlebury), Manchester.
  
  In 1871, William M Buckley was married and living on the Bolton Road, Pendlebury.
  
  In 1881, William (46 and married) was not with Mary.but with the 4 children (all born Pendlebury).
  
  In 1891, William and Mary (56 & 51) were at 12 Peel Street, Eccles, Manchester with Fred M (24), Clara L (22), Samuel C (20) and William L (17). Jessie Horton (23) from Liverpool was a visitor.

      Cornelius Buckley was recorded as living here in 1838 when he married Esther Scowcroft.
      
      John Mather recorded Crook St as his address in 1838 when his son Benjamin was born and again in 1842 when his wife Ellen (John and Mary's daughter) died.
      
      By 1851, except for Mary, their children had left home and they had 9 lodgers and visitors to fill what must have been a big house.
  He lived at Lever Bridge Fold from 1851.¹
