Helen, known as Nellie, was born in December 1888 in Hooley Hill.¹

Nellie's father was Henry Buckley and her mother was Ann Hallsworth. Her paternal grandparents were Benjamin Buckley and Patience (Patricia) Oldham. She had six brothers and a sister, named Arthur, Joseph, John, Rupert, Frank, Ernest and Alice. She was the fifth oldest of the eight children. She died at the age of 88 on April 21st, 1977 in Audenshaw.²
