Alice's father was Henry Buckley and her mother was Ann Hallsworth. Her paternal grandparents were Benjamin Buckley and Patience (Patricia) Oldham. She had six brothers and a sister, named Arthur, Joseph, John, Rupert, Frank, Ernest and Nellie. She was the oldest of the eight children.
