Sarah was born on July 16th, 1868 in Provo. Sarah's father was Richard Brereton and her mother was Elizabeth Carr. Her paternal grandparents were Richard Brereton and (Elizabeth) Ellen Lea. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Richard, William, Thomas, George, Mary, Elizabeth and Martha. She was the second youngest of the eight children. She died at the age of 41 on June 16th, 1910 in Provo.
