Lydia was born in May 1825 in Wybunbury and her baptism took place there on May 24th, 1825.1 2  Lydia's father was William Brereton and her mother was Jane Jones. She had five brothers and four sisters, named Richard, William, Thomas, William, Josiah, Mary, Jane, Jane and Mary.  She was the nineth oldest of the ten children.
