William was born in July 1819 in Wybunbury and his baptism took place there on July 1st, 1819.1  William's father was William Brereton and his mother was Jane Jones. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Richard, William, Thomas, Josiah, Mary, Jane, Jane, Mary and Lydia.  He was the seventh oldest of the ten children.
