Richard was born in 1808 in Walgherton and his baptism took place on January 7th, 1810 in Wybunbury.1  Richard's father was William Brereton and his mother was Jane Jones.  His paternal grandparents were William Brereton and <Unknown>. He had four brothers and four sisters, named William, Thomas, William, Josiah, Mary, Jane, Mary and Lydia.  He was the oldest of the nine children.
