Mary was born in February 1822 in Wybunbury and her baptism took place there on February 27th, 1822.1  Mary's father was William Brereton and her mother was Jane Jones. She had five brothers and four sisters, named Richard, William, Thomas, William, Josiah, Mary, Jane, Jane and Lydia.  She was the eighth oldest of the ten children.
