Thomas was born in May 1816 in Wybunbury and his baptism took place there on May 18th, 1816.1  Thomas' father was William Brereton and his mother was Jane Jones. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Richard, William, William, Josiah, Mary, Jane, Jane, Mary and Lydia.  He was the sixth oldest of the ten children.
