Jane was born in 1843 in Liverpool.1  Jane's father was James Robinson and her mother was Lydia Brereton.  Her maternal grandparents were William Brereton and Jane Jones. She had a brother and a sister, named George and Lucy.  She was the second oldest of the three children.
