Jane was born in July 1807 in Gawsworth and her baptism took place there on July 26th, 1807.1  Jane's father was John Brereton and her mother was Jane Harrison. She had a brother and eight sisters, named Joseph, Elizabeth, Hannah, Mary, Elizabeth, Harriet, Martha, Sarah and Ann.  She was the fourth youngest of the ten children.
