Elizabeth was born in January 1803 in Gawsworth and her baptism took place there on January 23rd, 1803.1  Elizabeth's father was John Brereton and her mother was Jane Harrison. She had a brother and eight sisters, named Joseph, Elizabeth, Hannah, Mary, Harriet, Jane, Martha, Sarah and Ann.  She was the fifth oldest of the ten children.
