Helen's father was Samuel Brereton and her mother was Ellen Bebbington. Her paternal grandparents were William Brereton Jnr and <unknown>; her maternal grandparents were George Bebbington and Jane Hancock. She had eight brothers and a sister, named William, John, Ernest, Frank, Samuel, Thomas, George, Chris and Annie. She was the youngest of the ten children. She died at the age of 44 in September 1928 in Northwich.²
