Abraham's father was William Brereton and his mother was Mary Stanyer.  His paternal grandparents were Randle Brereton and Sarah Buckley. He had five brothers and five sisters, named Randle, William, Randle, James, George, Hannah, Sarah, Mary, Emma and Annie.  He was the fifth youngest of the eleven children.
