Hannah's father was William Brereton and her mother was Mary Stanyer.  Her paternal grandparents were Randle Brereton and Sarah Buckley. She had six brothers and four sisters, named Randle, William, Randle, Abraham, James, George, Sarah, Mary, Emma and Annie.  She was the second oldest of the eleven children.
