Sarah was born in 1835 in Astbury and her baptism took place there on April 19th, 1835.1  Sarah's father was William Brereton and her mother was Mary Stanyer.  Her paternal grandparents were Randle Brereton and Sarah Buckley. She had six brothers and four sisters, named Randle, William, Randle, Abraham, James, George, Hannah, Mary, Emma and Annie.  She was the third oldest of the eleven children.
